Fees & terms of engagement

We are a small firm and most of the work that we do for clients is done by our partners. They are experienced solicitors with over 50 years experience between them.

The focus of our efforts is serving the best interests of our clients. We believe that this purpose is not served by competing simply on fees but in seeking to provide value for money by delivery of timely advice and cost-effective transactional work.
This is a roundabout way of saying that we offer quality at a reasonable price.

Our fees are usually based upon hourly rates for work carried out but in suitable cases we will agree a fixed fee with you or, at the very least, give a firm estimate of the cost of the work that you are asking us to do for you and an update if this is exceeded.

However the cost per hour is not as important as “how many hours will it take?”. An inexperienced or inefficient lawyer will take longer or, worse, will not put in enough hours.

It is our standard policy to agree terms of engagement with you at the outset of our work, covering the nature of the work to be done, the fees that we are likely to charge and any other costs that you will incur.

If work is to be undertaken over a long period, then we will arrange budgeted payments to assist your cashflow. Regular clients instruct us on the basis of a monthly fee.

Before you engage us we will find out from you what you want from us, we will advise you of what we can do for you and we will confirm that to you in writing with an estimate of cost.
